The thesis presents a cognitive linguistic investigation on the polysemy of the English body-part lexeme, i.e. <i>HEAD</i>. The lexeme is analysed in terms of (i) the cognitive motivations (e.g. metaphors and metonymies) grounding the various type of the <i>HEAD</i>'s extended senses, (ii) the correlation with the constructions within which <i>HEAD</i> exhibits its semantic extensions, and (iii) the relatedness among the cluster of <i>HEAD</i> s distinct senses in the context of its semantic network. The data comes from the web archive of eight British newspapers searched through the <i>Webcorp</i>.</p><p><br></p><p>A number of follow-up studies addressing similar topic as in this thesis can be found <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/28014/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/27679/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/29229/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/30230/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/30585/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/29230/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/26044/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/14205/">here</a>, <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/15215/">here</a> (all these are completed at <a href="http://repository.upi.edu/">Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia</a> between 2012 - 2017), and in the <code>REFERENCES</code> below (all completed at <a href="http://etd.repository.ugm.ac.id/">Universitas Gadjah Mada</a>, Indonesia between 2013 - 2016).</p><p><a></a></p><p></p></div>
