In modern society, conventional concrete construction industry faces some problems, e.g. high cost, long lead time. 3D printing is an emerging technology that can help to produce customized structures. Once applying 3D printing technology to concrete, it shows great potential. However, some practical challenges appear. In this thesis, several issues this technology on concrete are discussed. It puts forward alternatives for improving interlayer bonding strength firstly. Then, it discusses the risk of durability problems, and tries to enhance it by nano-engineered approaches. Finally, it talks about 2D sensing materials for potential strain sensing in 3D printed structures in the future.
