The research has been organized into a series of themes that analyze cultural, social and technical issues, as well as economic factors affecting trend formation. This study was carried out to develop a formula to make forecasts based on the impacts of emerging innovations and developments in the apparel and textile industries in the future. The formula would provide objective statistical guidance to designers, using many of the methods and tools developed by forecasters. It would enable designers to assess the optimal potential of emerging ideas. The equation is based on the assessment and identification of general consumer behaviours and forecasting principles of notable relevance. The techniques developed to obtain sample forecasts are modeled on a formula weighting factors and variables with the estimated random parameters of consumer variations. Preliminary results based on the formula include a sample of forecasted future indicators illustrated through a series of design outcomes.
