Law, space and justice : a geography of Aboriginal arrests in Victoria Mackay, Michael 10.4225/03/590bef1479d9f https://bridges.monash.edu/articles/journal_contribution/Law_space_and_justice_a_geography_of_Aboriginal_arrests_in_Victoria/4975604 Despite the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, an analysis of arrest rates in Victoria shows far higher arrest levels for Aborigines than for other Victorians. Of particular concern are the high arrest rates of Aborigines for certain types of street offences which the Royal Commission had recommended be removed from the statutes, including public drunkenness. The Royal Commission found that this was the most common offence leading to detention among those Aborigines who died in custody. Copyright.
