On the development of corrosion resistant Mg alloys via cathodic poisoning LIURUILIANG 2018 Magnesium alloys are attractive engineering materials for light weighting demands. However, high corrosion rate has greatly restricted the wider application of Mg alloys. The work in this project focused on the influence of micro-additions of selected alloying on the electrochemical and corrosion properties of Magnesium. In addition, a systematic investigation of cathodic activation phenomenon was carried out in order to illuminate the origin of cathodic activation. In a practical context, the work evolved to develop alloys that demonstrated simultaneously improved corrosion resistance and high strength, providing useful implications for the production of Magnesium alloys with balanced physical properties.
