MARROQUIN, JASON BRIAN Neural electrodes based on 3-dimensional organic electroactive microfibres A porous and fibrous 3-dimensional neural electrode was developed using electrospun fibrous membranes imbued with electroactive properties via a coating of conductive polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). The PEDOT electrode biocompatibility and functionality was assessed through in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo assays. PEDOT fibers supported: normal development of neurons; stimulation and recording of activity in brain slices and from the surface of the brain under anesthesia.
