Adolescent mental health problems are now recognized as a key public health concern. Preventive parenting programs are one potential solution. However, parental engagement in these programs has been consistently poor. This thesis aimed to increase researchers' understanding of parental engagement through the completion of a systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders. These stakeholders included parents who were aware of a preventive parenting program and declined to engage, practitioners and high school staff. The thesis concluded with the development of an evidence-informed conceptual framework, which synthesises the key factors influencing parental engagement in preventive parenting programs.
