This study examines PhD supervisory feedback practices from a conversation analytical perspective. Given the lack of empirical research on PhD supervision, little has been uncovered about how PhD supervisory feedback gets done, and how various issues emerge and get resolved in the actual conduct of supervision meetings. This study aims to address these questions by adopting Conversation Analysis (CA). CA provides a methodological framework that allows micro-analytical examinations of recorded naturally occurring interaction in order to discover the procedures that participants use to produce and interpret social actions. This study contributes to improving PhD supervisory practice and PhD research education.
