The findings of this study support a model in which TCPTP deletion in mammary gland results in PTK/STAT3 hyperactivation that contributes to pre-malignant changes. Despite the pro-tumorigenic effects, the findings in this study also define a role for TCPTP to harness the host immune system to potentially impede tumour progression. The results presented in this study are the first to explore the dichotomous roles of TCPTP in tumorigenesis and its interactions with the immune system. %I Monash University
