ZHU, SHUYU The encoding of vocalisation pitch in the marmoset auditory cortex The pitch of sounds is a core sound feature and different speakers have different voice pitch which is used as a cue for speaker recognition. However, little is known about how such voice pitch is represented in the brain. This thesis investigates the abilities and mechanisms of neurons in different auditory areas to represent the pitch of animal vocalisations in a highly vocal species marmoset and reveals that different neurons can modulate their activity patterns in different ways to signal the changes in vocalisation pitch.
