Modern imaging technologies are essential for preoperative planning in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Compared to the traditional modalities, a 3D-printed model can provide haptic feedback enhancing spatio-temporal understanding of the anatomy. As key patents expire, 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is becoming more affordable and accessible for clinicians. In the current study, I have established bespoke bedside Peninsula 3D printing workflow solution using open-access software and desktop 3D printers, demonstrated its utility in plastic surgery and, more specifically, in breast reconstructive surgery. Future application of 3D printing combined with augmented reality platform appears promising.
