This thesis focuses on the growth of small cracks which dominates the fatigue life of an operational aircraft. A systematic study into small cracks were presented, including validation of the stress intensity factors associated with small cracks, using different approaches to capture crack growth histories, investigation of the interaction of multiple cracks and variability in the crack growth rates.
