thesis
posted on 2019-09-03, 05:12 authored by YUNING ZHANG
China’s highly successful commercial media industry is a major development out of the country’s process of Reform and Opening-up since 1978. Within that industry, reality TV, or zhenren xiu (真人秀) has become arguably one of the most profitable forms of TV entertainment since 2012. In this thesis, I explore the production, consumption and online discussion of reality TV in China, so as to find out Chinese people’s opinions, values and interests regarding reality TV in the highly-regulated social environment of 21st century mainland China.
