Rescuing the future: Moving from path dependence to sustainable agriculture in the Philippines

thesis
posted on 2019-01-14, 03:34 authored by MURSHA DALAY-ON GAPASIN
In light of ongoing discussions around sustainable development, the study examines how sustainable agriculture, as a global concern, is defined in local communities. Drawing on the experiences of a farming community in the Philippines, I investigate why conventional agriculture persists despite its environmental and social consequences. I also explore how local initiatives to promote sustainable farming practices are transforming social structures and beliefs that maintain conventional agriculture. By highlighting context-specific needs and aspirations, my research offers a local perspective to conversations on what needs to be considered in the quest for sustainability in the farming sector.
