Role of RecA in Enterococcus faecalis

This thesis is a study on the role of recA gene in a bacteria named Enterococcus faecalis. It identifies the role of recA gene in protecting the bacteria from harsh environment such as oxidative stress and antibiotic treatment. In order to study the role of recA gene, the gene is inactivated and forms the recA mutant strain. The survival of this mutant strain is compared to the normal strain of E. faecalis when exposed to different types of oxidants and antibiotics. It shows that the recA gene is important for the survival of the bacteria and for causing infection.
