Roles for Tissue-Infiltrating T cells during Hypertension

During high blood pressure (known as hypertension) there are more immune cells called T cells entering organs that control blood pressure, such as blood vessels and kidneys. This study has found a specific role of these T cells following entry during hypertension, which involves promotion of inflammation by releasing greater amount of damaging agents that cause vascular dysfunction and mediators that promotes entry of other immune cells into important blood pressure-controlling organs. During hypertension there are also presence of unique mediators that heightened communications between T cell and other immune cells. These actions may represent novel targets to treat hypertension.
