The extent of community language maintenance in Australia
journal contribution
posted on 2017-05-04, 03:39 authored by Clyne, Michael, Kipp, SandraThere is considerable variation between different groups in maintenance of community languages in Australia, in both the first and second generations, although all languages are maintained less well in the second generation. Factors shown to influence language maintenance are cultural distance from English/Angle-Australians, relative population distribution and exogamy.
