This is not nowhere: photography, the campsite and the anti-nuclear movement in Australia

thesis
posted on 2017-02-21, 05:10 authored by Boylan, Jessie Louise
This exegesis documents my Master of Fine Art practice-led research project, which explores the ways in which the anti-nuclear community, of which I am a part, is developing, and has developed, its own connection to place, memory and history amidst broader Australian social narratives. I have researched and photographed our campsites, meeting places and protests in order to make visible alternative stories of resistance and resilience. I identify, investigate and describe the field in which my work is placed, and the ways in which other artists and theorists have explored ideas of photographic truth, representation, and sense of place.
