Towards an arts-based inquiry with immigrant women: Exploring cultural identity through dress

thesis
posted on 2019-11-08, 02:17 authored by EMMA DAMON
This study focussed on an arts-based inquiry with immigrant women in Australia, to examine dress as a theme enabling the exploration of cultural identity. The immigrant women had migrated to Australia from South East Asian countries and one from the country of Turkey. In the roles of the artist/researcher/teacher (a/r/t), I devised the content and teaching of the arts-based workshops on which this research was conducted. This research revealed the women’s empowerment of voice through storytelling, artmaking, and collaboration, leading to intercultural understanding.
