Urban Flood Risk Mapping of a Coastal Megacity—An Application to Mumbai, India
thesis
posted on 2017-02-14, 04:09 authored by Sherly M. A.Major
coastal cities across the Globe are at flood risk. This thesis develops an
overarching framework for urban flood risk mapping that comprises four
interlinked modules of work: design rainfall estimation (input to flood hazard
mapping), flood hazard mapping (physical and engineering aspects of risk),
vulnerability mapping (social aspects of risk), and flood risk mapping.
Demonstrated on Mumbai, it is the first effort for a megacity in India and aims
to bridge the gap between various disciplines towards a comprehensive framework
for urban flood risk mapping. Moreover, scientific contribution and application
of the proposed framework have received equal emphasis.
